Al Truant - Colorado Mammoth

PLPA Correspondent Chrissy Sadowski spoke to Al Truant after their Albany game and prior to their game against Vancouver. Al is currently playing for the Colorado Mammoth. He is a forward and this past weekend against Albany he proved why he is on one of the strongest rosters in the league. With three goals and two assists Al is stepping up his game.

Question In your loss against Albany you scored three goals and had two assists. Although you suffered another road loss do you feel like you contributed in a positive way to the Albany game?
Answer I guess I thought I had one of my better games of the year but going into Albany and losing 19-15 was not what we wanted to do. So, for me to play well and lose, it still wasn't a very good game for me.

Question What are the main contributing factors to the continuous road losses with the Mammoth?
Answer It seems like we don't get motivated on the road like we get motivated at home. I don't know if it is from the fans here yelling and screaming and getting us into the game. Here we'll play in front of 16, 000 people and then we'll go to Albany and we'll play in front of 1500 people and I don't know if it is a let down for us but we don't play on the road like we play at home. We need to start finding the answers to get us playing on the road like we play at home or we'll be in trouble.

Question Would a victory against Vancouver be extra sweet to you considering they let you go last season?
Answer It would be absolutely fabulous to play Vancouver and to have a good game because last year I was on the Vancouver team. I felt that I didn't really get a shot to prove myself to play on that team, so it would be nice for them to come here, for me get three or four goals for us to win the game, then maybe just look at the coach and say thanks for nothing.

Question I understand you've relocated to Denver and live with two other players in town, how was that experience?
Answer It's a nice break for me. I'm actually 34. An older rookie in this league, and I have been working most of my life so coming here and spending five months here, playing lacrosse and traveling all over the U.S. to play, meet a lot of great people here it's really just my 15 minutes and I am just in heaven.

Question What goes through your head before a game when you know your team has the biggest fan response in the NLL?
Answer For me every game is exciting, when I play back home we usually play in front of 100 people so when I come out to Colorado and I know there is going to be 16,000 fans, it really psyches me up and it gets me into the game. Just hearing the crowd gets me into it and gets most of us into it.

Question What do you do in your off season to prepare for the pro season?
Answer I play all summer and then come here and play all winter. I also hit the tread mill as much as I can as well as weights, and other than that I try to get a lot of games in.

Question What do you think are the main components to beating Vancouver this weekend?
Answer Transition is going to be huge, we have to get on and off the floor fast and for our offense we have to get the ball moving, set picks, cut in the middle and scoring on our opportunities.
