Brian Langtry - Colorado Mammoth

18, 207 fans watched the Colorado Mammoth live on Friday against the Albany Attack. Many more got to watch via the internet on the NLL's first live visual broadcast. The Mammoth jelled together with one player standing out to help bring this team to another crucial victory. PLPA Correspondent Chrissy Sadowski spoke with Brian Langtry after a career high of four goals and five assists to get his thoughts on the Mammoth as they try to make their way into the playoffs.

Question After four goals and five assists tonight, you helped bring your team to a 19-16 win over Albany. This game was crucial for a chance at the playoffs. What was going through your head tonight?
Answer We've had a sense of desperation for the last five games and I didn't want it to end. I love playing, I love this team and I just kept thinking that we have to win.

Question Albany's defence did a nice job tying up Gary Gait, did you feel like you needed to step up your game to make up for the lack of Gary's offense?
Answer Not really, I think I play best when I am not trying to do too much. I just played hard and tried not to concentrate on the fact that he was tied up. Things were bouncing my way and I was in the right place at the right time.

Question After Albany goalie, Blasdell, took out Tom Phair both benches ran to the floor and fought, where were you amongst the group?
Answer I was trying to break it up. I didn't want anyone to get suspended because our next to games are so important. I was just trying to get out alive. I ran out after Albany's bench cleared and just tried to help get my guys out.

Question It is constantly emphasized that as Professional Lacrosse players you all have day jobs and with that it is often noted that you are a teacher at a local school in Denver, what do your students think of this?
Answer I actually teach middle school and the kids love it. I get asked about lacrosse every day and lots of the kids even wear Mammoth jerseys. I get tons of support and even see at least 20 kids at each game.

Question Do you feel that you are a good role model in and out of the class because of lacrosse?
Answer I think so. I think it's good for the students to see me as an athlete but more importantly that I put academics first. I try to teach the athletes to emphasize school over sports and that there has to be a balance.

Question Many of the kids attend signs that say "Go Mr. Langtry!", do you feel that there is a special type of respect with that?
Answer Yeah I think so, none of the kids give me a hard time at school, and in fact I have it really easy. It's funny because a couple of them ask me for my autograph and I tell them that I write on their papers everyday.

Question Tonight there were some firsts for the Mammoth including the first live visual broadcast over the internet. What is it like knowing anyone can watch you from anywhere?
Answer It was cool. In this league many of the fans only know players from their home teams and only see away teams when they play in their hometown. The exposure is big for the league and it's important for fans to know all players and teams, not just their team.

Question Also Gary Gait and you appeared on The Best Damn Sports Show Period with Tom Arnold. What were you feeling when you were talking to Tom?
Answer It was awkward because all we had were earpieces and we were looking into a camera. But it was a blast. They told me to do something funny but there weren't a lot of lines. Plus I was miked for the entire game and other players kept walking by and saying things. It was a really good time and cool because all of my family watched from New York.

Question What is your overall opinion of the Colorado Mammoth franchise doing so well in its first year?
Answer I think it's great for the league. The talk of more cities mid-west will solidify the league. There is so much exposure out here for the league and the fans out here are amazing.

Question What do you think the Mammoth need to do to get into the playoffs?
Answer We have to win our next two games. We must win to Calgary and win to Toronto. If we win one game and lose the other we will be 8-8 and that might not get us in. If we win both games we will be 9-7 and should be in.
