A few words with New Jersey Storm Forward Cam Bomberry. Cam sat down with PLPA Correspondent David Unkle. | |

You had a big win Friday night (February 15) in a 15-8 upset win against the Washington Power and another upset win against the N.L.L. Champion Philadelphia Wings. Is the team finally getting on track this season? |
For sure…it's definitely been a long haul to get to where were at it's just a matter of playing a full game. A lot of time we only played 35-40 minutes a game
In your last two games, you effectively shut down the Washington Power's Gait Brothers and tonight you held the Wings to six goals through three quarters; what the What was your defensive strategy? |
Defense wins games and it starts from the goalie…hats off to Roik [Storm Goalie Matt Roik]. He played unconscious last night he was just everywhere. He was stopping everything and moving the ball up…our defense was stopping them…it was a total effort from Roik out and our goals were going in…things are going our way. |
What did you see in the Wings' that allowed you to exploit their defense in the manner that you did; you had many opportunities to get in close to Wings' Goalie Dallas Eliuk? |
It's the solid individual effort…guys like Scott Stewart going hard to the net, the guys that are quick-footed are going hard[to the net]…when the ball moves around like we had last night and tonight, it moves a lot faster than anybody's feet. You know moving the ball… guys are going to get open and have their chances.
The team had four players join the Strom within the last couple of weeks; how does that impact the team's chemistry? |
They're great additions…Brian [newly acquired Brian Bendig] had a big game last night…our styles need to come together. He's from out West Canada and box lacrosse is similar to where I play in Ontario…it's just a matter of putting together guys who will click and it's definitely happening.
You're a young team that is currently in last place in the Eastern Division and the league's second worst record. How do you keep that competitive edge? |
It's a matter of playing one game at a time and then breaking it down to one shift at a time. It's putting that effort out every time you hit the floor. I think that is what our focus is…playing hard every time you hit the floor; it definitely paid off this weekend.
You're off for three weeks now; tonight the two week break that Philadelphia had seemed to hurt them in the first half. What will you do to stay focused on your next game? |
That comes down to individuals doing their work at home and getting their sticks out and passing it [the ball] around and staying focused. Will probably meet and get back together and keep riding on this weekend.
Travis Kilgour (the Storm's Assistant Captain) was just traded to the Montreal Express. Anytime you lose a leader it has an impact; how will it impact this team? |
Travis has been in the league for awhile...he's going to a team with a better record. He will make his contribution to Montreal. Brian's come in and has definitely contributed this weekend to us…it's just how things work out.
